Wizards in Winter

This has been around a while, but while I was listening to a Christmas special out in Manland (the Garage) they played “Wizards in Winter,” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which I *MUST*ALWAYS* turn up. After an
exhaustive air-guitar session, I remembered that there was a video to it, of a man’s house with lights sync’d to the music.

This is the house of Carson Williams, in Ohio. An electrical engineer, in 2004 he spent about 3 hours programming the 88 channels used to control 16,000 lights.

Miller used it in 2005 as a commercial, “Enjoy the Lites.”

Mr. Williams became so known for his efforts from the original video, he went on to found a corporation that does light displays for malls and such. His own show at home became overwhelmed with traffic, and after an accident on the street leading to his house, he voluntarily shut down his show at home, but later moved it to a more public venue where cars could drive through.

Williams’ display also inspired others to use the music and program their own displays, after he’d posted instructions online about his display. (Some claimed the original video was faked)

Here’s a single home:

This year, in Murrieta, Ca, the folks living on Bainbridge Circle got together and did the whole street:

While the street project is impressive, I think this is the best I saw for a single home in lights:

At this time of year, when we think of others and how they enrich our lives, I’d like to thank every one of my readers and my family and friends for their presence in love in my life. It’s been a rough year, and next year might not be any better, but if we all stand together, we can make it.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Jeff
